 | Major Changes are Coming to Marquette Ave. & 2nd Ave.
A major project, funded by a federal grant through the City of Minneapolis, is planned for downtown Minneapolis. When completed in late 2009, this project will provide an additional bus lane on both 2nd Ave. and Marquette Ave., allowing for increased transit volume and better traffic flow. Both Avenues, at some point from summer 2008 through December, 2009, will be closed from 1st St. to 12th St. for construction and utility improvements. The project will require all buses currently using Marquette and 2nd Avenues to operate differently for the entire construction period.
SouthWest Transit has worked with Metro Transit, the City of Minneapolis and other suburban bus systems to plan the best possible solution for our customers during the construction. We know that this will greatly change most of our riders' travel patterns, but when this project is finished, it will provide a much more efficient system for all express riders.
Based on the upcoming construction schedule, we plan to make changes to our routing in EARLY AUGUST. To help you get a head start on planning how this change will affect you, here is how SouthWest Transit buses will be diverted until construction ends in late 2009:
EASTBOUND
- Exit I-394 at Dunwoody
- North on Hennepin stopping at posted bus stops
- East on 6th St. stopping at posted bus stops (no stop at Nicollet)
- North on 5th Ave. stopping at posted bus stops
- East on 4th St. stopping at posted bus stops and continuing to U of M
WESTBOUND
- Regular routing from U of M
- West on 3rd St. stopping at posted bus stops
- South on 4th Ave. stopping at posted bus stops
- West on 9th St. stopping at posted bus stops (no stop at Nicollet)
- South on Hawthorne to I-394
